Julianne Jackson’s 35th birthday was the same day as George Floyd's murder. Soon after, she helped organize “End White Silence - White People For Black Lives” at the Oregon State Capitol on Saturday, June 13th. "When I came out in Salem and saw that I had allies and that people actually cared. It lit something within me and it’s changed my life. I can’t look away now." said Jackson. Jackson founded Black Joy Oregon, a grassroots social activist organization of women; moms, Black, multiracial, non binary, queer, LatinX, and indigenous. Black Joy OR travels throughout Oregon raising awareness, helping after forest fires, feeding the homeless, and fighting for racial justice through joy and outreach.
